Getting Down and Dirty with iPhone FW2.0 and App Store
Jul 21st
Thanks to the iPhone Dev Team, my first-gen iPhone is now running App Store apps courtesy of the unlocked and jailbroken iPhone 2.0 firmware. After fiddling with it for a couple of hours, here’s what I found:
The Not-So-Good Stuff:
- iPhone FW2.0 is a bit sluggish compared to its predecesor, FW1.1.4
- MobileME is still very buggy. I added two contacts on the web version and it got pushed to my laptop a few minutes later and to my iPhone 10 minutes later. Not good considering it’s supposed to PUSH information instantly or at the very least after a few seconds.
- Some App Store apps are still very buggy causing it to quit suddenly and sometimes even cause the iPhone to reboot spontaneously.
- Still no flash support in Safari.
- Still no A2DP (wireless music streaming over Bluetooth) support.
Compaq Presario C794TU Laptop User Review
Jun 20th
As a gift to myself and to further my blogging, I decided to purchase a laptop.
The selection process was hard. I was torn between getting an Apple Macbook or a PC laptop. Financial constraints led me to stick it with a familiar friend — PC. This review is a bit long so I suggest watching this funny or annoying ad (depending on which side you’re on) as an ice breaker.
On to the actual review
Out of the box, the Compaq Presario C794TU notebook comes pre-installed with a licensed copy of Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic. Initially, I was thinking of buying the lower model (C767TU) pre-installed with FreeDOS as I had concerns with Vista’s performance but went on to buy this higher-end model because of the faster processor and bigger hard drive capacity.
