My Top Emerging Influential Blogs for 2011

Another year, a new set of influential blogs. Yes, it’s nomination season again for Janette Toral’s writing project where bloggers pick new blogs that have made an impact during its maiden year in the Philippine blogosphere.
Here’s my list for 2011:
1. Eat’s Terrific! by Orman Manansala. Written by the same witty blogger behind GandaEverSoMuch.com, this blog is about gustatory treats and delicious finds. Can’t decide on what to eat or where to go for your next meal? Orman has the answer.
2. Kikay Much! by Donna Mae Congson. I do tech support for this blog so I’m privy to its analytics. I may not know anything about fashion and beauty but I’m quite sure a blog inundated with comments and reader traffic is the definition of influential.

The blogosphere in Davao is bustling with two exciting events lined up.
First up, a photojournalism workshop intended to enhance the photography skills of new media writers and photographers in the region. Renowned photographer and journalist Jojie Alcantara will be conducting the workshop scheduled on the 14th of November.
Following the workshop, a couple of weeks later, is a bloggers party that promises to be a game-changer for Davao’s blogging landscape as the party will also usher the formal establishment of a Davao Bloggers Community where the leadership will be democratically elected by the bloggers themselves while enjoying free-flowing drinks and delectable food.

This year’s edition, ably organized and generously sponsored by Davao Deli and Davao Foodie, is the second iteration of one of the most anticipated blogging events in Davao City.
Running WordPress 2.7 and Lovin’ It!

This blog is now running on the latest version of the best blogging platform in the world. Yup, I have finally upgraded to WordPress 2.7 and I must say the folks at automattic did one hell of a job!
For the WordPress geeks in the crowd, you may have noticed that my upgrade is a few days late since the much talked about release of WordPress 2.7 approximately 4 days ago.

Just this week, popular free classifieds site, sulit.com.ph, was hacked and was maliciously redirected to Sedo. As the security breach happened over the weekend, it took quite a while for the site admin to address the issue. For a heavily-trafficked site like Sulit, I think considerable financial losses were incurred as a result of the breach.
After learning about the incident, I googled about how secure WordPress blogs are against malicious attacks considering that I just made the leap from blogger.
