Running Wordpress 2.7 and Lovin’ It!
This blog is now running on the latest version of the best blogging platform in the world. Yup, I have finally upgraded to Wordpress 2.7 and I must say the folks at automattic did one hell of a job!
For the Wordpress geeks in the crowd, you may have noticed that my upgrade is a few days late since the much talked about release of Wordpress 2.7 approximately 4 days ago.
Well, I did try to upgrade the moment version 2.7 came out but the Wordpress automatic upgrade plug-in kept failing at the final step of the upgrade. I initially thought that the upgrade plugin was incompatible with the latest release of Wordpress but after reading from other blogs that they were able to upgrade without issue using the same plugin, I knew something was amiss somewhere.
I tried doing the upgrade manually but it was still a no go. My blog’s index and admin page would become inaccessible after the upgrade. This went on for two frustrating days. Exasperated, I decided to delete and re-install my entire Wordpress installation knowing that my blog posts and visitor comments were safely stored in the SQL database.
But then I committed a careless mistake while providing my database details when I was finalizing the fresh setup of Wordpress. I inadvertently setup the database to accomodate two distinct blogs which resulted to my blog showing zero posts and comments.
After several futile attempts at figuring out what went wrong, I finally contacted Mindanao’s resident Wordpress guru, Blogie Robillo for help and he sure didn’t disappoint. My posts and user comments were restored in no time. You’re a life-saver, Blogie! Thanks a million!
As it turns out, the whole problem was caused by the theme that I was using as it was incompatible with Wordpress 2.7 coupled with my carelessness in setting up the fresh install of Wordpress. Luckily though, somebody posted a fix for the incompatible theme so I am using it again.
