Check out the montauk monster–the latest buzz in the American media and the internet.

First posted by gossip website, gawker, this photo of a decomposing creature that supposedly washed ashore at a beach in Montauk, Long Island, New York is making the rounds of internet news and gossip websites.

Speculations abound as to what this weird-looking corpse actually is. People have been quick in making their ‘theories‘ known. Some say it’s a sea turle missing its shell, others say it’s a top secret genetically-modified animal from nearby Plum Island Animal Disease Center.

The photo is so popular that fresh photos of the corpse actually begin to surface like this one from Cryptomundo that is supposedly showing that the corpse has a beak.

Major american new organizations such as Fox News, USA Today, and even CNN have also picked up the story.

Meanwhile, Animal Planet’s wildlife expert Jeff Corwin has been quick to dismiss the so-called ‘montauk monster‘ as a decomposing corpse of a raccoon or a dog and says that the ‘beak’ is actually canine teeth.

Personally, while the creature in the photo looks like it came straight out from the science fiction movie, Cloverfield, I think the creature is just a bloated corpse of a pitbull. So, what’s your take on this photo?
