Yes, I have. It's works fine but the resolution is very low. The VGA port offers better resolution.

Carl,

If you are on BIOS F.33, then there is no need to upgrade to F.34 as the only documented enhancement of F.34 is BIOS password protection.

As for the 4GB upgrade, I don't have any personal experience with it but I read that some people were able to upgrade to 4GB. (See: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3325140&postcount=18)

However, I can tell you that I was able to upgrade my RAM to 3 GB when I updated my BIOS to F.33.

I upgraded to F.34 a few minutes ago and everything appears to be fine.

The procedure is very simple. You just run a windows application and it will display your current BIOS and will ask you for confirmation for the BIOS update. The entire update will take less than 4 minutes.

I understand your reservations in upgrading the BIOS. I used to own a Windows smartphone and Windows PDA back then and messing up the BIOS upgrade could really brick the device.

hello lyle,

just checked on your blog regarding this laptop. i posted in your previous blog and now im redirected.

after a few months, this laptop didnt disappoint me. still running good and perfect.

about the BIOS change, i checked on the hp website and it now F34. i see in previous posts that u have installed the F33. anyone tried upgrading to F34? if the BIOS is upgraded, can i now install 4 gig RAM on this laptop?

lastly, im having second thoughts of upgrading the BIOS so i need your inputs. im afraid if i upgrade this, my laptop might crash or loose some data. is this possible? im afraid of the risks since i already have a lot of files now in this laptop. i have a Palm Treo smartphone and when i upgraded its firmware, it was now acting weird and had it to fixed by Palm in the US!!! (quite expensive to have it repaired and its not even my fault). im afraid that if i upgrade the firmware on this laptop, it might act the same with the smartphone. (i know its not the same device but given the chances of flaws in upgrading firmware).

please help if this upgrading thing wont jeopardize the laptop.

thanks a lot.

hi lyle, this post solved my dilemma. I was having second thoughts about buying this model for two weeks now. At least, I'm reassured that this one's good. Thanks! I was at the MBS too.
